Optional Trip to East Bali
Today we will discover the East Bali Tour. East Bali is covered mostly by the Regency of Karangasem, but actually covers the entire area of Eastern Bali. The “entryway” to East Bali is commonly considered the city of Candi Dasa, which sits on the East Coast of Bali, and is a very popular resort town. Just a bit further south is Padang Bai, which is the main ferry port for Bali, and the entry and exit spot for the Gili islands or Lombok.
First spot will be the Kertagosa, in Klungkung regency, a justice court building dating back to the Klungkung Kingdom period. It consists of two main structures: A grand hall or the namesake Bale Kerta Gosa, featuring ceilings filled with Kamasan or wayang-style paintings, and the Bale Kambang ‘floating' hall or pavilion that's surrounded by a moat. A national heritage site, it is also open to the public.
Drive more eastward stop by at Tirta Gangga is a former royal palace in eastern Bali, famous for its picturesque water gardens. It was built in 1946 during the reign of the late king of Karangasem. The complex is a cool retreat in the eastern highlands, perched on the southeastern slope of the island’s highest mountain, Mount Agung. Tirta Gangga, like its royal sister bathing complex, consists of tropical gardens, wading pools, fish ponds, and fountains. The name means literally ‘water from the Ganges’ and is a revered place for Balinese Hindus. The central attraction of the palace is an eleven- tiered fountain and there are also many beautiful statues and carvings to be found there. Your lunch will be served at Local Restaurant.
Remain at the same region you will have a chance to visit the Taman Ujung Water Palace. Built in 1909 and designed by Dutch and Chinese architects, it’s one of the most impressive and unique buildings Bali has to offer and is not very well known amongst tourists as it is not one of the famous sights in Bali. Afterwards drive back to your hotel in Ubud.
